During the Dasara festival, liquor sales in Telangana surged, crossing Rs 1,000 crore within just ten days. This massive boost in sales was driven by heightened consumer demand during the festive period, contributing significantly to the state's overall revenue. The excise department reported record-breaking figures, reflecting the increasing consumption trends during major festivals in the region.

The excise department reported a revenue collection of Rs 1,057 crore during the period, with beer sales alone (18 lakh cases) playing a major role in boosting the overall earnings. In the current fiscal year 2024-25, the state has generated Rs 19,857 crore from liquor sales so far.

In the ongoing 2024-25 fiscal year, the state has already generated Rs 19,857 crore from liquor sales. A total of 10.45 lakh cases of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) were sold. The state government generated Rs 877 crore from liquor sales between Oct 1 and 11 in the previous financial year. 2024 showed a 20% increase in sales despite Gandhi Jayanti being a dry day.

Beer sales saw an increase this year compared to the same period (October 1-11) in 2023-24; however, the growth rate of beer sales was lower compared to that of IMFL sales. While beer sales saw an increase of 10%, IMFL sales showed an increase of 26%.

Liquor sales in the state have demonstrated steady growth each fiscal year. In the fiscal year 2014-15, when the state was established, the total revenue from liquor sales was only 10,000 crores. In the 2014-15 fiscal year, shortly after the state was established, the total revenue from liquor sales amounted to 36,493 crores.
